The Truth about Naked Skydiving

Skydiving

Believe it or not, naked skydiving is actually a “thing” in skydiving. It’s been part of the culture for as long as anyone can recall and frankly… we’re not sure why. Here we’ll take on this delicate topic of why people want to jump naked and also highlight the cons of jumping in the buff.

Why Naked Skydiving?

It’s Fun. To tell the world that you’ve jumped from a perfectly good airplane while naked… well that’s a conversation starter isn’t it? Imagine being at the bar sharing your experience with your friends. You’ll have a very captive audience!

It’s Extreme. Many would say that jumping from 13,000 feet is extreme. How can you push it further? Jump naked.

It’s Freeing. There is great freedom that comes with skydiving naked (or so we’ve heard). You can’t be worried about anything. Some people look at it as a cathartic experience as you literally shred off all that holds you back and take the plunge. When one skydives, all worries do melt away. You’re living entirely in the moment and if you’re naked, you’re surely going to be laughing in the moment.

The Realities of Naked Skydiving

Not Sexual. Many people associate public nudity as sexual. When it comes to naked skydiving, it’s the furthest thing from sexual or attractive. If you Google naked skydiving, you will get endless results of people jumping in the buff (mostly in Europe) and what you see doesn’t look good. (Caution, Googling this will result in imagery that you can’t unsee). Even supermodels don’t look runway worthy falling at 120mph as it pulls on skin in ways that don’t show your best side.

Adds Risk. This is something many people don’t think about when visualizing a naked skydive and is why we don’t offer this as an option to our guests. Not every skydive has people landing on their feet or in the designated landing area. Many skydives usually involve sliding in particularly on light wind days. Visualize sliding into home plate… naked. Yeah, it can hurt and leave you with marks to remind you about your naked jump for weeks after. Occasionally, based on a multitude of variables, you can land outside of the main landing area which could involve high grass or even an occasional cow patty. You see where we’re going with this.

It’s Cold. Gents, it’s cold up there. Enough said.

Why Are We Writing About Naked Skydiving On Our Website?

Believe it or not, we get asked about jumping naked quite a lot and while we’re not opposed to anyone skydiving Tennessee in their birthday suit, it’s not something we offer our guests as it can be offensive to others joining you on the ride to altitude, and as mentioned earlier, adds an unnecessary risk.

So, if you’re thinking about jumping in the buff, realize it’s fun, but may not be all you thought it would be!
